The farm and its history

'Campo di Forni' is an agricultural enterprise specialized in olive oil production that progressively diversified up to include other cultivations and also lodges for nature loving tourists.


The  farm enterprise first started in 1974 when the current owner, then living in Rome and tired of city life, acquired the first lot of the farm consisting of an 8 hectares plot surrounded by woods and gorges. The cultivation included grains and about a hundred olive trees as well as some fruit trees.


In 2004 the enterprise made a qualitative and quantitative leap buying a neighbouring farm and bringing the total area to 25 hectares. A new olive grove, fruit orchards, a vineyard, grain and fodder crop areas as well as a vegetable garden were added. The olive grove reached its final shape in 2006 with a total of about 2000 olive trees, mainly belonging to a  local variety called ‘dritta’. The olive grove is registered with the Aprutino-Pescarese DOP(denomination of protected origin) since 1999.


We adopted natural systems of production from the very start and eventually opted for organic farming, certified by ‘Suolo e Salute’ a founding member of IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) since 2005. The search for the best quality in oil production was rewarded in 2006 when we obtained the second prize for organic olive oil in the first regional Abruzzi contest for extra virgin olive oils.


The vineyard produces ‘Montepulciano d’Abruzzo’ and ‘Trebbiano’ grapes, transformed into wine for own, and friends, consumption. Fruit trees are in three small orchards but also scattered throughout the farm. Trees include apples, pears, walnuts and hazelnuts, peaches and apricots, figs, cherries and sour cherries, plums, pomegranates, medlars and persimmons.


The farm is directly managed by the owner who uses local manpower according to needs. Cooperation with neighbours is excellent and follows the traditional characteristics of exchange and mutual support.

Lodging for tourists within the farm offer accomodation since 2011 for nature loving guest and for those interested in our production systems and way of life.
